PermaJet Launches You Tube Channel

PermaJet were the first company to design and launch an ink flow system in the UK back in 2001. The concept was born from customer feedback concerning the extremely high costs of printer manufacturer’s original cartridges where, in some cases, the replacement cartridge set ended up costing more than the initial value of the printer itself!

This simple and yet extremely effective concept was, and still is, largely based upon a ribbon of ink tubes, attached at one end to an external bottle unit containing 125ml of each colour of the highest quality PermaJet inks, and at the other end, a set of specially developed ‘injectors’ which replace your original cartridges in the print carriage and are fed from the bottles as required.

The Eco-Flo system requires no physical modification of the printers working parts and can be installed in less than 40 minutes by anyone with the aid of the step by step fully illustrated instructions provided.

If you would like to see a more in depth demonstration of the installation process you can now visit PermaJets official You Tube channel and view their useful videos explaining the set up clearly every step of the way.

Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W3 used in Médecins Sans Frontières campaign ‘MSF Delivers’

Médecins Sans Frontières, MSF (Doctors Without Borders) is this month launching ‘MSF Delivers’, a new campaign highlighting the work MSF does delivering babies in humanitarian emergencies across the world.   Supporting the campaign is a series of photofilms; including a 3D film captured entirely on the Fujifilm FinePix 3D W3.

The campaign was conceived by MSF as an opportunity to highlight the vital hands-on medical work being done by British volunteers working for the international charity.  It focuses on the authentic experiences of midwife Samantha Perkins, 29, who has spent nine months working with MSF in a war-torn part of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.  Sam was based in North Kivu, where she supervised a busy maternity ward providing obstetrical and neonatal care to the women and babies in Masisi.  Sam and her team delivered 3451 babies last year, more than the Royal Free hospital in London.  Almost all of the pregnancies will have been classified as high risk – were it not for the work of Sam and her team, many of these women, and their babies, would have died.

The unique 3D film was created by duckrabbit, an award-winning digital and broadcast production company, who spent ten days in the Democratic Republic of Congo documenting Sam’s work.   duckrabbit worked alongside World Press Photo award-winning Japanese photographer, Yasuyoshi Chiba, to capture the images used in the film.  Chiba studied holographics at university and bought Fujifilm’s original 3D camera, the FinePix Real 3D W1 when it launched in 2009.  Upgrading to Fujifilm’s latest model for his trip to the Congo, Chiba used the FinePix W3 to capture over 2500 3D stills for the film, of which about 30 will be used in the final film.

Peter Rudge, Head of 3D at duckrabbit says of the production, “The 3D imagery in the film is rich, layered and incredibly engaging; the audiences that we have shown the material to have been struck by the immersive and moving nature of the 3D experience.  They say they’ve never seen anything quite like this before.  The film and Yasuyoshi Chiba’s images demonstrate that the Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W3 is capable of producing very high quality 3D still images that are fit for large-screen professional productions.”

UK PR Manager of Fujifilm Digital Imaging, Katie Teesdale, said of the project, “We are delighted that the FinePix W3 has been used to create part of the MSF Delivers campaign.  It is great to see 3D images being used so effectively.  Chiba has taken some phenomenal photographs that really capture Sam’s experiences in the Congo.  We are thrilled that he has chosen to use our FinePix W3 to document MSF’s work in the region.  The 3D photofilm that duckrabbit has put together is extremely evocative and we hope it will prove a valuable part of the campaign.”

The MSF Delivers campaign is being launched at the Royal Society of Medicine where the 3D photofilm of Sam’s work will be screened alongside a 2D film and images taken on the visit to the Congo.  There will also be a free public exhibition of the 3D photofilms at Spitalfields Market in London from 22-27 September.   The film will be available to view online on YouTube’ 3D channel to help promote the campaign further.

HARMAN technology announce two new products to the ILFORD range of photographic papers

Photo calendars now available with high-gloss

Photo calendars are the perfect personal present. Now Printing-1 is offering personal photo calendars with optional gloss.

For five years Printing-1 has been offering its customers the opportunity to create their personalized photo books. In addition to canvas prints, photo books and photo book calendars, Printing-1 is now offering wall calendars with an optional high-gloss finish. For the high-gloss option, the calendar’s pages are sealed with an environmentally friendly gloss coating that gives the images brilliance and sharpness in every detail.

For the glossy option, each calendar page will be sealed after the digital print with a glossy, protective coating. This UV varnish improves the appearance and colour brilliance, coming close to the quality of photographic prints, without using temperature-sensitive PE photo paper.

Environmentally friendly gloss on photo calendars

Customers can choose from eight different photo calendar formats. Thanks to the “glossy” option, the picture surface is protected from wear and fading, which ensures a long life for the calendar images and memories. Those using the glossy option can do this with a good environmental conscience, because the direct digital printing doesn’t use chemically developed PE photo paper; and the materials and processes used have been scrutinized under the environmental management norm ISO 14001 *.

Introductory offer:

For those who want to try out the new photo calendars there is an additional incentive, because Printing-1 introduces its new photo calendars with £10 off on the first order. The coupon code “PRIXUK” is valid on the goods ordered by new customers till 30/10/2011:

Canon introduces the PowerShot SX40 HS

Canon has unveiled the latest addition to its range of powerful, ultra-zoom compact cameras. Combining an incredible 35x ultra-wide-angle zoom lens, full manual control and Full HD movie capture, the PowerShot SX40 HS is ideal for photographers who want the flexibility and control of a DSLR and the versatility of a huge focal range packed into a compact body.

Providing outstanding image quality, the PowerShot SX40 HS is among the first PowerShot models to feature Canon’s new DIGIC 5 image processor which boosts the performance of the HS System and offers advanced shooting options as well as supporting Full HD (1080p) movie capture. The amazing zoom range allows any subject to be captured with ease, from high-speed action at the racetrack to distant wildlife on the African plains and abstract close-ups. New Intelligent IS technology also ensures still images are crisp, and video footage is smooth and clear.

Ultra-powerful, ultra-zoom
The PowerShot SX40 HS is incredibly versatile, capturing subjects near and far with amazing precision thanks to one of the most powerful zooms on the market, which draws on the same optical expertise behind Canon’s industry-leading professional lenses.  The versatile 35x zoom, with Ultrasonic and Voice Coil Motors (USM & VCM) to ensure fast, silent zooming and focusing, extends from a 24mm ultra-wide-angle to a maximum telephoto range of 840mm, enabling users to capture wide-angle shots of stunning landscapes as well as portraits and distant action.

The 4.5-stop optical Image Stabilizer has also been enhanced with new Intelligent IS technology that detects the shooting situation and automatically applies the most appropriate image stabilisation settings from seven possible modes (Normal IS, Dynamic IS, Powered IS, Panning IS, Macro IS, Tripod mode, Dynamic Macro IS).  For example, Panning IS is enabled when following the action of a racetrack, ensuring the IS system stabilises in only one direction, while Macro IS with Hybrid IS technology is perfect for shooting clear close-ups. Powered IS uses Canon camcorder technology to make it easy to film distant subjects with the long zoom, and Tripod mode switches off the Image Stabilizer when the camera is on a stable surface or attached to a tripod.

Raising the bar for image quality
The PowerShot SX40 HS is the latest model to feature the HS System, combining a high-sensitivity back-illuminated 12.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor with Canon’s new breed of image processor to capture beautiful, low noise images in all conditions. The new DIGIC 5 image processor offers even more advanced noise reduction technology, giving up to 75% less noise ( Compared to the previous Canon DIGIC 4 processor) at all ISO levels and producing more natural, blur-free results without needing to use a tripod or the flash. New Multi-area White Balance can make images look more natural by detecting situations where there are two different light sources and then applying area-specific white balance correction. For example, when shooting a casual portrait with flash inside a room lit with tungsten lighting, the camera will apply tungsten white balance on the background and flash white balance on the face, ensuring both the subject and the background keep their natural colours.

High speed, high drama
The new DIGIC 5 processor takes the high-speed shooting capabilities of the 12.1MP CMOS sensor to a new level, enabling photographers to capture every moment in stunning detail and quality. Photographers shooting fast-paced action can choose between shooting full resolution photos continuously to card capacity at 2.4 shots/sec., or with the new High-speed Burst HQ mode, a high-speed sequence of up to 8 full resolution shots can be captured at 10.3 shots/sec.

Alternatively, experiment with Super Slow Motion Movie – shooting VGA resolution video at 120fps (or QVGA resolution at 240fps) and playing it back at a fraction of the real speed (QVGA movies (320×240) play back at 1/8 of real speed, VGA movies (640×480) play back at 1/4 of real speed)  - to add dramatic flair or analyse a goal or golf swing. For even greater support when shooting after dark without a tripod, Handheld Night Scene captures a high-speed sequence of shots, combining the image data to produce one well-exposed shot with minimal blur.

Full HD movies – shoot and share with ease
The dedicated movie button allows photographers to become videographers instantly, switching from high quality stills to Full HD (1080p) video at 24fps with stereo sound for fantastic home movies. The USM and VCM on the huge telephoto lens enable the PowerShot SX40 HS to zoom and focus quickly and silently, allowing photographers to make use of the full focal range whilst filming.

Sharing and editing your home movies also couldn’t be easier. The PowerShot SX40 HS supports the Apple iFrame Movie format, allowing video clips to be imported and immediately edited in common software programs, simplifying and accelerating the post-production process. Frame and view your footage on the 6.8 cm (2.7”) vari-angle PureColor II VA LCD screen, alternatively, share your footage and photos on the big screen, straight from the camera’s HDMI port. You can also use the remote control of an HDMI-CEC compatible HDTV to browse the camera from the comfort of your sofa – perfect for sharing holiday snaps or home movies with friends and family.

Manual control and creative support
For more advanced users, the PowerShot SX40 HS offers the complete flexibility of full manual control. On-screen Hints & Tips can also be engaged to guide beginners through the different camera settings, helping to develop their photographic skills with every new shot. Smart Auto has also been enhanced, detecting up to 32 different scenes 21 scenes detected in Movie mode and automatically adjusting the camera settings to capture the best possible image. Tracking AF allows the photographer to select an object and track it as it moves around the frame, ensuring off-centre compositions are perfectly in focus at the moment the photo is taken.

To add creative flair to every shot, the PowerShot SX40 HS also features a range of Creative Filters including Fish-eye Effect, Super Vivid, Poster Effect and Miniature Effect which also extends to movies. Toy Camera Effect recreates the nostalgic effects of a pin-hole camera and Monochrome produces shots in black and white, sepia and blue tones.

Further extending its creative possibilities, the PowerShot SX40 HS can be used with Canon Speedlite EX flash units as well as a lens filter adapter and other accessories. This provides Canon compact camera users with many of the benefits of the EOS DSLR System, combined with the unsurpassed versatility of this model’s incredible zoom range.

Canon unveils the PowerShot S100

Canon has announced the launch of the new PowerShot S100 – a powerful, versatile and highly compact camera offering photographers extensive control and leading image quality. The most advanced PowerShot S-series model to date, the PowerShot S100 surpasses the high standards set by its acclaimed predecessor, featuring a new f/2.0 Canon lens and an enhanced HS System, which combines an elite high-sensitivity sensor with the very latest in Canon processing technology – DIGIC 5.

Packed with upgrades, the PowerShot S100 marks a true step forward for the PowerShot S-series. Its 24mm ultra-wide angle, 5.0x optical zoom genuine Canon lens provides greater power and flexibility, and combines with Canon’s Intelligent Image Stabilizer (IS) system to deliver crisp, clear images in stills and movies. GPS functionality records the time and location of every shot, Full HD movie recording captures stunning video, and the powerful DIGIC 5 processor offers fast shooting speeds and even better image quality in all conditions. All of these new features also come in a super-slim body measuring just 26.7mm front-to-back, available in matte black and titanium silver variants.

The HS System with DIGIC 5 – new levels of power
The PowerShot S100 features the most powerful implementation of the HS System yet. Building on the PowerShot S-series’ reputation for providing high-quality, low noise images in low light, the enhanced HS System optimally combines DIGIC 5 processing with a high-sensitivity 12.1 Megapixel 1/1.7-type CMOS developed using Canon EOS sensor know-how – providing an even more powerful basis for low light photography. Supporting a maximum ISO of 6400 at full resolution, the camera fully-utilises the high performance of the CMOS sensor and the power of DIGIC 5 to reduce image noise – offering the reassurance of excellent image quality in all conditions.

Designed to achieve new and advanced levels of image quality, DIGIC 5 analyses four times more image information to create each pixel, recording more detail and colour from a scene than ever before. Processing speed is also six times faster compared to the previous processor, efficiently managing the increase in scene information and simultaneously reducing the appearance of image noise by up to 75% (Source: Canon internal testing. Comparison between the PowerShot S95 and the PowerShot S100 at ISO 1600 sensitivity).

Genuine Canon lens with Intelligent Image Stabilizer
The PowerShot S100 features a new, high performance lens developed and manufactured using the same methods and expertise as Canon’s leading EF lenses. A benchmark in Canon optical technology, the lens supports 24mm ultra-wide angle coverage for shooting horizons and landscapes, and an extended 5.0x optical zoom for zooming into distant scenes or subjects – all while offering a bright f/2.0 maximum aperture, and a light and compact design.

Intelligent IS utilises Canon’s highly-effective 4-stop optical Image Stabilizer to counter camera shake in stills and Full HD movies. Providing seven modes of stabilisation (Normal IS, Panning IS, Macro IS, Dynamic IS, Powered IS, Dynamic Macro IS, Tripod mode). Intelligent IS automatically identifies the scene and adapts the optical Image Stabilizer settings for optimal compensation. Panning IS is ideal for following racetrack action, ensuring the IS system only corrects the axis vertical to the direction of movement, while Macro IS features Hybrid IS technology for shooting clear close-ups. Powered IS uses Canon camcorder technology to film distant subjects when using the zoom, while Tripod mode switches off IS when the camera is on a stable surface or attached to a tripod.

Enhanced control
The PowerShot S100 offers full manual control over shooting settings and modes. Designed to fit seamlessly into a photographer’s existing workflow, it supports RAW format shooting and offers compatibility with Canon’s Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software as standard, providing a perfect second camera for DSLR users.

The popular Lens Control Ring, synonymous with the modern PowerShot S-series, also provides a tactile way to control picture settings such as focus and exposure. Users can assign the Lens Control Ring to a number of different image parameters, including shutter speed, ISO sensitivity and aperture, allowing them to fine tune their exposure in 1/3-stop increments. The ‘Ring Function’ button and rear Multi-Control Dial can also be custom-assigned to control other pre-selected functions, providing complete flexibility to serve different user styles.

High-speed and complete ease-of-use
Using the power of the DIGIC 5, the PowerShot S100 is ideal for capturing fast-moving action. High-speed Burst HQ is perfect for everything from sports to parties, capturing a rapid sequence of eight full resolution shots at up to 9.6 shots/sec. For recording the drama of high-speed action, Super Slow Motion Movie mode also records videos at 240 fps (QVGA quality) or 120 fps (VGA quality).

For easy shooting in a range of situations, Canon’s Smart Auto mode ensures great results by selecting the optimum settings for a scene from 32 variables. New Multi-area White Balance also makes images look more natural by detecting scenes with two different light sources and applying area-specific white balance correction. For instance, when shooting a portrait with flash under tungsten lighting, the camera will simultaneously apply tungsten white balance to the background and flash white balance to a person’s face, ensuring both the subject and background look natural.

A wealth of additional features
Ideal for users who want to record the location of every shot, the PowerShot S100’s integrated GPS unit records where and when images are taken, so users can keep an accurate record of the place and time their pictures are taken. Additionally, the GPS Logger facility records a user’s journey, allowing them to review their travels by using the supplied Map Utility software which integrates with Google Maps (Google, Google Maps and Google Earth are trademarks of Google Inc).

Stunning Full HD (1080p) video is also captured at 24 frames per second with stereo sound. The 5.0x optical zoom can be used during video capture, while Dynamic IS and Powered IS mode within Intelligent IS counteract camera shake when recording whilst moving, or when using the zoom. An HDMI-CEC port makes it easy to share videos, allowing users to play images back on compatible HDTVs using the TV remote.

A large, premium-quality 7.5 cm (3.0”) PureColor II G LCD display is perfect for framing and playback, with a fine 461k dot resolution that offers high contrast and excellent colour reproduction. A tempered glass outer layer provides a wide viewing angle and resistance to scratches, and new grips on both the front and back of the camera body offer improved handling, making this the ideal pocket camera for enthusiasts.

Expand your possibilities
The PowerShot S100 is instantly compatible with a range of Canon accessories. The new HF-DC2 is an external flash unit that can be used to supplement the on-board flash, allowing users to capture a broader range of subjects. Users can also explore the world of underwater photography with the new optional Waterproof Case WP-DC43, which provides water resistance to depths of 40 metres and protects the camera from dust, dirt and damage – making it perfect for snorkelling or diving on holiday.
