Fujifilm X100 awards tally continues to rise

In what can only be described as an extraordinary year, the Fujifilm X100 has continued its winning ways with the addition of a prestigious iF Design  product design award; the camera’s fourth major International award in just six months.

Established in 1953, and sponsored throughout by the International Forum Design GmbH of Hanover Germany, the iF product design award is recognized all over the world as a symbol of outstanding design and innovation.

Judged by an international panel of 44 acclaimed design experts, the awards are open to both manufacturers and designers and although entries are considered from a very broad range of product areas - including 4322 entries from 1605 participants from 48 countries in 2011 – they are all judged by the same criteria including: design quality, finish, choice of materials, environmental impact, degree of innovation, functionality and ergonomics.

As one of the 2012 Product Design Award winners, the Fujifilm X100 will now also be automatically put forward as a nomination for the iF Design’s 100 Gold Award winners, to be announced on February 10th 2012.

And to put the seal on an extraordinary year, the iF Product Design Award is the Fujifilm X100’s fourth major international award in 2011, with the camera having already received the European Advanced Compact Camera of the Year at the prestigious EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association) 2011-2012 Awards, the TIPA Award for Best Premium Camera plus the equally prestigious award of Editor’s Choice from the 2011 Camera Grand Prix of Japan.

Mac Bills to lead Kenro expansion

Kenro has announced the continued growth of its sales team with the addition of Mac Bills who has been appointed the company's National Account Manager.

Mac brings his considerable experience and knowledge of the photo industry to this new role, having most recently held the position of Sales Director at ODS, where he was responsible for building their sales and marketing activities and developing the Vanguard range.

Kenro Managing Director, Paul Kench says of Mac Bills‚ appointment: "We are delighted to welcome Mac to the Kenro team. National Account Manager is a new role within our company and Mac will be responsible for pushing our brands such as Tokina, Nissin, Reflecta, Benro and Marumi into the multiples."

He continued: "Mac's experience and contacts will help Kenro to grow into new areas and he's already talking to several major high street chains about them stocking our lines. These are very exciting times for Kenro and Mac has a big part to play in our future growth."

In addition to his time at ODS, Mac's career in the imaging industry includes senior roles with CZ where he was product manager for Regent Accessories. He then moved on to Introphoto (now Intro 2020), and spent 10 years there as product manager then sales manager for various lines including Tokina.

In 1990 he joined Hama, where as MD he started the UK subsidiary. He left to become a self-employed consultant and worked for various companies mainly in the optics field, before joining Fameart as Sales Manager, helping to develop their Camlink range and co-ordinate the license agreement with Energizer.

2011 International Projected Image Exhibition winners announced

The two Gold Medal winners of The Royal Photographic Society’s 2011 International Projected Image Exhibition have been announced.

Ukrainian photographer Sergey Buslenko FRPS won the Gold Medal in the General category for Afloat in Dreams and the Nature category Gold Medal winner was Andrew Gasson ARPS from the UK, for a study of an Emperor Penguin.

The International Projected Image Exhibition, which is open internationally to any photographer, showcases 484 images from forty-seven countries this year. The other medal winners came from the UK, Switzerland, Hong Kong and Canada with High Commended entries from the UK, Israel, Portugal, China, Australia, USA and Germany.

The exhibition, previously known as The International Slide Exhibition, started accepting digital submissions in 2007 and  went fully digital in 2011. The International Projected Image Exhibition opened in Gosforth  on 25 October and will travel to venues and camera clubs across the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.

Lesley Goode, Exhibitions Manager commented:  “This year’s entries were of a very high standard with entries showing technical skill and artistic merit. We had 773 entrants and it’s clear that the move to a fully digital competition has reinvigorated many photographers’ picture making.”

The General category accepts a wide range of subject matter from the artistic to the documentary. The Nature category depicts observations from all branches of natural history.  Each section has its own specialist selectors, usually Fellows of The Society.

Two new vinyl USB record players from Kenro

Kenro has launched two new vinyl record players, the LP-USB/SD and the LP-PC, as part of its increasing range of digitisation products from Reflecta.

Both models create digital music files from long-playing or single records.

The LP-USB/SD can work independently so no PC is required for operation. Thanks to its integrated MP3-Converter the digitised music files are stored direct onto a USB-Stick or SD card. The two built-in loud speakers mean it can also be used as a stand-alone record player, the user can also listen via headphones using the 3.5mm jack.

The dimensions of the LP-USB/SD are 33cm x 12.5cm x 29.5cm and it weighs 2.2 Kg. It has an RRP of £90.

The new Reflecta LP-PC also enables you to digitize your long playing records easily into digital music files via its connection to a computer's USB-interface.  With the included Audacity software you can directly import the music and edit your digitised LP collection by deleting 'clicks' and other unwanted noises.

The dimensions are 33cm x 11cm x 28 cm and it weighs 1.9 Kg. The RRP is £60.

Both models play at either 33rpm for LPs, 45rpm for singles or 78rpm for old 78's. The turntables come with an AutoStop switch for automatic stop after recording, Smooth drive, a replaceable cartridge (stylus), and a removable dust cover.
