Calumet launches two new Professional flash systems

Calumet has launched two new portable flash systems at highly competitive prices.

The Genesis GF200 with its 360 degree illumination and 200Ws power output will retail at just £285.00 and its larger sibling, the GF400, with similar illumination but with 400Ws power output, will cost £385.00. Both units are capable of wireless-remote manual power control when used with the company’s Genesis 433MHZ 16-Channel Wireless Trigger kit.

Said Sian Hamer, Calumet’s marketing executive: “We think these new products, which form part of our ever-expanding Calumet Genesis range, will prove very popular with our customers. Both provide excellent manual control of flash settings but without sacrificing compactness or ease of use. What also makes these flash systems exciting is the wide range of light control accessories available -including the 16-channel wireless trigger kit, an umbrella reflector, beauty dish w/grid and snoot.
Each unit boasts a large LCD display; simplified controls; a separate On/Off button; rotating head with vertical adjustments up to 90 degrees; MF-Assist Beam for low-light or low contrast conditions; audio-ready function and built-in overheating protection circuitry. Built-in PC sync and 3.5mm sockets also provide flexible triggering options.”

She added: “The GF200 and GF 400 are designed to be used with the PowerPort Duo 1000 – a rechargeable, interchangeable battery pack with a price tag of just £127.00. This pack can provide up to 900 full power flashes with the GF 200 and 450 flashes for the GF 400 in a single charge. It is also compatible with a wide range of popular speedlights including Canon, Nikon, Sony and Metz alternatives. All Genesis light modifier accessories are compatible with the Quantum Qflash TRIO and 5dR flash units.”

The new Calumet flash systems and all associated lighting control accessories are available through all Calumet sales channels: stores, call centre and web.

Ilford Lab USA now open for business

HARMAN technology Limited, the company behind the ILFORD brand of black and white photographic products has announced the availability of processing and printing services in California, USA. Serving North America, is now ready to accept film orders by mail.

Established in the UK, the service based at the HARMAN factory in England has ran successfully for over 15 years. This Mail Order service was originally introduced to satisfy amateur and hobbyist photographers who found it difficult to have their films processed and printed on real black and white silver gelatin photo paper at a local facility. With the advent of digital imaging fewer mini labs had the capability to print real black and white, preferring to print on colour paper. The ILFORD LAB service can process any make of black and white film, and prints will be made on ILFORD black and white paper. Each film is processed with a unique development time to obtain optimum contrast and density. Develop and Print turnaround is normally 2-3 working days in the lab. Regular 4 x 6 inch prints are returned by mail, or special delivery, in a sturdy ILFORD presentation box. A range of upgrades and enlargements are also offered, including three levels of quality for scanning black and white negatives.

ILFORD Process Paid mailers are available from popular photographic dealers, alternatively customers can now use the secure website to pay for film processing online. Dealers interested in stocking the Mailers should contact [email protected] or HARMAN technology at 888 372 2338 extension 106.

HARMAN Director of Marketing and North American Sales, Steven Brierley, explained, “It has become more and more difficult for black and white film users to have their films processed and printed to a high quality on real black and white paper. Our Lab based at the HARMAN factory in England has provided a continuous quality service to UK photographers for many years, and we are seeing an increased number of enquiries from overseas, including North America. We are excited to announce that built on that success we can now offer the same service from a base in California.”

One Vision Imaging unveil new canvas art frame product

One Vision Imaging has launched a new wall display product named ‘Canvas Art Frame’.

Varying depths, textures and frame variations enable this product to be versatile according to the image itself and frame selected. Paul Hill, One Vision’s Product Development Manager said: ‘Canvas products are still extremely popular and it seems only right that we try to push its possibilities. Adding the second layer of Canvas with the same image has enabled the wrap itself some surrounding space in which to be viewed. This not only compliments the wrap but also it acts just like a window mount does on traditional frame. Finding the right frame molding was the final challenge as we knew it could be an incredibly versatile product. Having selected a bright reflective silver, bare wood effect and a brushed black means we’ve opened up the possibilities even further’

One Vision’s ‘Canvas Art Frames’ are available now via their website at

2 flagship Calumet stores are now home to EIZO monitors for photographers to trial

Manchester and London now host three of the best EIZO monitors so photographers can put them through their paces.

Offering unbiased product trials in two of the Calumet stores with the heaviest footfall, EIZO and Calumet are now able to invite photographers to learn about colour management, why a monitor makes a difference and to run their own images through the machines so they can see the difference for themselves.

“The Calumet stores are perfect for photographers at any level to actually see for themselves the positive difference that an EIZO CG monitor will make to their pictures,” said Victor Aberdeen, EIZO ColorEdge Sales Manager. “Photographers often are put off by the technical stuff about monitors, but it is about the art, so being able to try them out for themselves brings the advantages into focus, showing photographers the detail ordinary monitors are hiding, which really benefits their images!”

New universal Ray Flash ringflash adapter

The Inventor of the original and first ever ringflash adapter, Dalibor Zyka from The Czech Republic, has just released a new and up-dated design of his product: The Universal Ringflash Adapter.

The new Universal Ringflash Adapter was developed by a professional photographer from the Czech Republic. It was designed to be as light and as portable as possible. There are no electronics, no flashtubes and no cumbersome cables! It uses a clever system of acrylic light channels and reflectors to distribute the light emitted from the flash unit evenly around the large diameter of the ringflash adapter. This creates the same lighting effect normally only available from ringflash units made by studio flash equipment manufacturers, which are expensive, heavy and tethered (they have a cable from ringflash to power pack).

The universal, adjustable clamp mechanism holds the portable flash unit (speedlite) safely and in the right position, aided in some cases by a black, rubber O-Ring. Because of different height camera bodies from the main manufacturers TWO models are available, Short & Long (see chart for listing). Both models have a height-adjustable neck for minor variations in camera height.

The RayFlash Ringflash Adapter creates a very special lighting effect: a “3-d shadow-wrapped look”. Because all light originates from the front, i.e. from around the lens, it produces a virtually shadow-less look on the front of your subject, while a soft even shadow appears around the edges. It is ideally suited for fashion, portrait, beauty, wedding & macro photography as a main or fill-in light.

The RayFlash Ringflash Adapter does not change the colour temperature of the flash that powers it and the additional weight can easily be accommodated by the hot-shoe mounted flash unit.

How to fit the Ringflash Adapter:

The Ringflash Adapter is mounted to the front of a Hot-Shoe type flash unit or “speedlite” and it is small and light-weight enough to allow complete mobility, therefore no extra support fittings are needed and no strain is put onto the front of your lens.
