Further colours and sizes for Kenro’s Frisco and Emilia Gift Frames

Kenro has announced further additional sizes and colours to their existing ranges of gift frames.

The Frisco Range is now available in a high gloss White finish. This increasingly popular frame colour is now available across a variety of ranges. The White Frisco is available in 18 different sizes: from 6x4 inch up to a massive A1. The Frisco frames feature a slim moulding with a rounded top profile. All frames are supplied shrink wrapped with protective corners.

The Emilia frame range is also extended to now feature two trendy 'shabby chic' colours: Distressed Blue and White. The Emilia moulding has a 34mm wide profile and includes MDF back and free-standing easel. The Blue Wash distressed finish goes from 6x4 inch to 12x8 inches, whereas the White is available up to 12x16 inches.

Says Paul Kench, Kenro's managing director: "Offering the public a greater choice of sizes and colours can mean the difference between getting the sale or not. These frame ranges are extremely popular, so it's important that our dealers have a wide choice to suit their customers' requirements."

Kenro is displaying these and a number of other exciting new frame and album ranges at the Home & Gift Fair, Harrogate, 13-16 July. All the new styles are shown in Kenro's latest brochure, available on their stand B24.

PENTAX launches the XG-1 bridge digital camera

The soon to be launched PENTAX XG-1 is a versatile, all-purpose bridge camera; perfect for beginners who are looking for a step up from a compact camera.

Pentax's press announcement says...

The XG-1 is deal if you're looking for a camera to capture those all important moments when you're out and about.  This lightweight, compact camera has an easy-to-carry body with a design resembling PENTAX SLR cameras.  It offers a host of outstanding basic features, including a powerful 52-times optical zoom lens, approximately 16.0 effective megapixels for high-resolution images, and a large, easy-to-view 3.0-inch LCD monitor.

For those who are less keen on carrying a bag of lenses 'just in case' this camera offers it all.  Able to cover ultra-wide-angle (24mm) to super-telephoto (1.248mm) ranges, this all-in-one model performs superbly whatever the subject.  If close up macro shots are more your thing, then you'll love the 1cm Macro mode, which allows you to capture dramatic, eye-catching close-up images from a distance of just one centimetre. That's perfect for capturing the detail of your favourite wildlife and flowers.

This digital bridge camera certainly packs a punch when it comes to high-speed continuous shooting, making sure you never miss a moment - even if it's a moving subject.  The PENTAX XG-1 offers standard continuous shooting mode with a maximum speed of 9 images per second.  But if you prefer life in the fast lane this camera also offers a super-high-speed continuous shooting mode with a maximum speed of approximately 60 images per second* and a high-speed continuous shooting mode with a maximum speed of approximately 30 images per second**.  Coupled with Auto Tracking AF function, it will keep your moving subject in focus, whether that's a bird or a dirtbike - producing dramatic, perhaps even once-in-a-lifetime shots!  Add to this the XG-1's shake reduction system and you'll be guaranteed a full set of sharply focused, blur-free pictures.

* In the super-high-speed continuous shooting mode, the image size is fixed at VGA format (640 X 480 pixels).

** In the high-speed continuous shooting mode, the image size is fixed at 4M (2304 X 1728 pixels).

And if a picture still doesn't capture the full essence of your subject, switch your XG-1 into HD-standard movie recording, select your preferred choice of one of eight digital filters (including black & white and sepia), and sit back.  You can playback your movies on the camera, or connect a micro-HDMI lead to watch on the big screen at home and share your adventures with friends and family.

If that wasn't enough, the XG-1 also offers ten shooting modes including the hands-off Auto Picture, Scene (11 options), Program, Face Beautifier and Movie.  Select digital filters such as black & white and fish-eye to extend the creativity of your shots.  There's even pet detection mode for automatic recognition of up 10 pet faces . The XG-1 is with Eye-Fi wireless LAN SD memory cards so you can share your images and videos straight to your phone or tablet, and post them online before you get home.

Death Valley set to come to life at unique prolab exhibition

A Newcastle-based prolab is set to stage a unique six week exhibition of latest work from multi-award-winning Tim Wallace - widely acclaimed as one of the top ten most influential photographers in the world today.

Digitalab will display around thirty images shot  by Wallace using  just one camera and one lens in an abandoned 'ghost town' in the hostile Death Valley desert in Nevada.

Said Wallace: "The sheer scale and beauty of the Death Valley wilderness has always held a fascination for me and the idea of a photographic expedition to an abandoned town in its very heart was irresistible.  Darwin is a very long way off the beaten track and it actually took two trips to even find it."

Lured by the prospect of rich textures and outstanding light that prevail in the American 'ghost town' he planned simply to capture what he saw before him.

He added: "There are three things that will remain with me always from my visit to Death Valley. The sheer deafening silence as the sun dropped across the valley and left both me and the town in darkness; the  discreetly parked US Army truck with the not so discreet bullet hole in the windscreen -  and then noticing that every clock that I came across had stopped at 4:20 on Sunday the 13th. !"

Wallace ultimately required very high quality output for his first-ever exhibition but needed to travel light. He chose to shoot exclusively with the highly portable Fujifilm  X-Pro 1 CSC with a 14mm f/2.8 lens.

Long life for Death Valley prints:

The Wallace exhibition prints will be galleried on Fujifilm's Crystal Archive paper - which can provide over 100 years' longevity.

Jill Roe, Digitalab's owner and exhibitions manager said: "Tim is a long-standing customer and a very talented photographer and we are thrilled to be staging this show at our in-house gallery. The fact is you simply can't get better than a C-Type print for quality and archival stability and we've combined the tradition of silver paper with laser printing to ensure the very best results.

The prints will be on sale through our dedicated website address once the exhibition opens on August 7 - and I'm sure they will be a very attractive purchase for fine art collectors."
